Over 10,000 people attended three free performances of nutkhut’s Bollywood Steps, an outdoor dance spectacular which formed the centrepiece of Town Hall Birmingham’s 175th anniversary and was also part of the city’s Light Night.

Created by Birmingham-raised Simmy Gupta and introduced by Bobby Friction, the show included dazzling dance numbers, colourful costumes, water effects and spectacular fireworks, all set against a backdrop of the dramatically-lit Town Hall. Over 500 local schoolchildren, youth dances and dhol drummers joined nutkhut’s cast, and members of the audience were invited to join in a moment of mass participation in the show’s wedding scene finale.

The performances are part of the People Dancing programme, part of the West Midlands Culture Programme for London 2012, and have been awarded the Inspire Mark which recognises innovative and exceptional projects directly inspired by the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The People Dancing programme is funded by Legacy Trust UK, Arts Council England and Advantage West Midlands.
